Simulation Disclaimer
Version: 1.1 Effective date: April 6, 2026 Last updated: 2026-07-24
1. Simulated, Non-Factual Nature
This is a simulation exercise, created for educational, training, and research purposes. A simulation may model real-world actors, organizations, events, or dynamics, whether current, historical, or projected.
Where a simulation references or models a real person, organization, or situation, that depiction is a hypothetical construction for the exercise. It does not represent the actual statements, positions, decisions, or conduct of any real person or organization, is not a factual claim or a prediction, and must not be relied upon, cited, or presented to anyone as real.
The platform is used solely for educational exercises, professional training, and academic research.
2. Prohibited Real-World Actions
Participants must NOT take any real-world action based on simulation content. Specifically:
- Do NOT contact real emergency services (police, fire, ambulance, 911, 112, 999, or any equivalent) based on anything that occurs in the simulation.
- Do NOT contact real media organizations (newspapers, television stations, news agencies, journalists) based on simulation content.
- Do NOT contact real government agencies or officials (local, state, national, or international) based on simulation content.
- Do NOT contact real military or defense organizations based on simulation content.
- Do NOT post simulation content on social media or public forums as though it describes real events.
All communications within the simulation are part of the exercise only. They describe simulated situations and require no real-world response.
3. Emotional and Psychological Safety
Simulation scenarios may involve stressful or uncomfortable simulated situations. These can include simulated emergencies, simulated media pressure, simulated diplomatic crises, simulated public health events, or other high-pressure scenarios designed to test decision-making under stress.
Participation is voluntary. Any participant may withdraw from the simulation at any time without penalty by notifying their facilitator. No explanation is required.
If any participant feels genuine distress during the exercise, they should inform their facilitator immediately. The facilitator is responsible for providing appropriate support or directing the participant to available resources.
4. Facilitator Obligations
These obligations are mandatory, not optional. Facilitators who run simulations on this platform accept these responsibilities:
- Facilitators MUST brief all participants before the simulation begins that all content is simulated and is not a factual account, including any depiction of real actors.
- Facilitators MUST explicitly instruct participants not to contact real emergency services, media, government agencies, or military organizations based on simulation content.
- Facilitators MUST provide a clear mechanism for participants to withdraw from the simulation at any time.
- Facilitators MUST monitor for signs of genuine distress and respond appropriately.
- Facilitators are responsible for ensuring all participants understand the rules in this disclaimer before the exercise begins.
Failure to fulfill these obligations may result in suspension of the facilitator's account.
5. Content Attribution
Messages, decisions, and actions taken during the simulation are performed in an assigned role within a simulated scenario. They do not represent the participant's personal views, opinions, beliefs, or intentions.
Simulation content must not be used to evaluate a participant's personal character, political views, or moral judgment outside the context of the exercise.
Facilitators and institutions that use simulation data for assessment must limit evaluation to the learning objectives of the exercise.
6. Confidentiality
All simulation content is confidential to the exercise. This includes messages, deliverables, press releases, decisions, and any other material generated during the simulation.
Participants must not:
- Share simulation content with anyone outside the exercise
- Take screenshots or screen recordings of simulation content
- Record audio or video of the simulation
- Distribute or publish simulation content in any form
Violation of these confidentiality rules may result in immediate removal from the simulation. Facilitators may report violations to the participant's institution.
7. Indemnification
By participating in this simulation, participants agree to indemnify and hold harmless Read the Room Intelligence LLC, its officers, employees, and agents from any costs, damages, claims, or liabilities arising from:
- Contacting real emergency services, organizations, or government agencies based on simulation content
- Distributing simulation content outside the exercise in a manner that causes harm or confusion
- Any other violation of this disclaimer
Read the Room Intelligence LLC is not liable for the content of facilitator-designed scenarios, including the choice of subject matter, difficulty level, or emotional intensity. Facilitators and their institutions bear responsibility for the appropriateness and lawfulness of their simulation designs, including any depiction of real persons, organizations, or events, which the Facilitator and institution represent is for legitimate educational purposes and is not defamatory or otherwise unlawful.
8. In-Simulation Visual Indicator
Recommended implementation: Display a persistent banner at the top of the simulation interface during the entire exercise:
SIMULATION EXERCISE | SIMULATED CONTENT, NOT REAL
This banner should be:
- Visible at all times during the simulation (not dismissible)
- Styled distinctly from simulation content (e.g., high-contrast bar, fixed position)
- Present on every page within the participant simulation interface
This practice mirrors real-world military and government exercise protocols, where all communications are prefixed with "EXERCISE EXERCISE EXERCISE" to prevent confusion with real operations. NATO exercise protocols (STARTEX/ENDEX) and FEMA exercise standards follow the same principle.
Display Locations
Join Page (pre-join)
Display sections 1, 2, and 3 in a visible panel on the join page. Participants should read these before entering the simulation. This can be presented as a collapsible section labeled "Important: Read Before Joining" that is expanded by default.
In-Simulation Banner
Display the persistent banner from section 8 at the top of the simulation interface for the duration of the exercise. Additionally, show a condensed version of section 2 (prohibited actions) as a dismissible modal on first entry into the simulation.
